Journal Entry Chapter 2

 

    Before I wanted to pursue the teaching field, I knew I always wanted to work with children on some type of level, but I wasn't sure how I wanted to go about that! I feel like I have lived many lives in my college journey so far. First, I pursued nursing and wanted to be a pediatrics nurse, but quickly found out that wasn't the profession that I wanted to go into. Then, I wanted to be an occupational therapist, working with children who had special needs and I loved the whole aspect of that profession but I wasn't completely sure on it. I then went to consult with my advisor from my previous college and she recommended me look into teaching. I then changed my major to early childhood education, and as soon as I started taking child development courses I immediately fell in love for that profession and what it stood for. During this past summer, I became a head teacher for Vacation Bible School with the toddler group and it became even more clear that this is what I was meant to do in life. Working with toddlers is definitely a task but it's so rewarding to watch them grow and learn and to know that you are impacting their lives. Looking back on my own school days, I'm not really sure why I didn't pursue this career sooner! I used to be involved in the after school program and a lot of the time, I would spend my time there building blocks with the younger children- which is definitely a core memory for me. The most important thing I have learned so far about early childhood development is that you truly need to care and advocate for children and you also need to be interactive with their parents, sharing resources to them that could help them continue their child's learning at home. This journey so far has been a blessing and I can't wait to see what the future holds for me and my teaching abilities!

      I always had mixed feelings about standardized testing when I was younger. It would make me really nervous to take tests because I never wanted to do poorly so that always motivated me to do my best but it also stressed me out a lot during the test taking because I would always doubt my answers and that made me take more time on each question.            In today's world, technology plays a huge role in classrooms now, so I feel that technology integration could pose as a challenge to me as a future teacher. Since COVID-19, technology has been implemented in classrooms and schools as a whole so much more than what it used to be. Technology has become an important tool within schools because it is now another version for how students learn. When you look around in schools now compared to years ago, you see chrome books, digital whiteboards, artificial intelligence, tablets, and much more.          I definitely feel that this could be a challenge for me as I consider myself to be a more traditional learner. Journal Entry Chapter 4:

    When I imagine myself teaching a lesson about a favorite hobby, I would imagine teaching a lesson on something creative like painting or drawing.       This lesson could be a window to students because it could give students who don't really gravitated towards painting or drawing the opportunity to explore expressing their creativity. They could observe their classmates paint and draw to learn new ways that could make it more fun. I could also use this lesson as an opportunity to help students be more engaged and interested in the art process. For example, I could show them what happens when they mix colors, like how blue and red makes the color purple. This could help expand their art techniques and learn something they may have not known before.      This lesson could also be a mirror to students because they could use their artwork to connect meaningful things or experiences.
