Journal Entry Chapter 5:

 

        When becoming a teacher, I anticipate that I have students that differ in many areas. I hope that I have students that have different learning styles. Some students may need to learn in an auditory way while others may need to learn in a more hands-on way. Personally, I always learned with a mix of auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning styles- I never learned best with just one specific learning style, so I think it would be interesting to help children navigate finding their learning styles whether that be one singular learning style or a mix of learning styles. I feel like having students with different learning styles can help me learn to be the best teacher I can by accommodating each learning style for each child.

     I also expect to have students that have different cultural backgrounds. Students may have different cultural traditions within their household and different socioeconomic statuses. I want to learn about all of these students' backgrounds and be the type of teacher who allows children to share and express their culture in the classroom to ensure that they feel seen and heard. It may be a challenge learning how to navigate but it will also give me opportunities for personal and professional growth. 

    To help children learn what their lives are like, I would allow time in class for the students to self reflect and learn about each other in the class. I would let students engage in journaling assignments and allow time for a class discussion about the assignment afterwards. I just feel like this is an assignment that would help students learn about each other and give them the opportunity to share their stories or experiences. I would also make sure to give feedback to each student and what they chose to share, whether it be words of encouragement, positive advice, or even telling them a story or experience of myself so that they can learn about me as their teacher as well.

      I always had mixed feelings about standardized testing when I was younger. It would make me really nervous to take tests because I never wanted to do poorly so that always motivated me to do my best but it also stressed me out a lot during the test taking because I would always doubt my answers and that made me take more time on each question.            In today's world, technology plays a huge role in classrooms now, so I feel that technology integration could pose as a challenge to me as a future teacher. Since COVID-19, technology has been implemented in classrooms and schools as a whole so much more than what it used to be. Technology has become an important tool within schools because it is now another version for how students learn. When you look around in schools now compared to years ago, you see chrome books, digital whiteboards, artificial intelligence, tablets, and much more.          I definitely feel that this could be a challenge for me as I consider myself to be a more traditional learner. Journal Entry Chapter 4:

    When I imagine myself teaching a lesson about a favorite hobby, I would imagine teaching a lesson on something creative like painting or drawing.       This lesson could be a window to students because it could give students who don't really gravitated towards painting or drawing the opportunity to explore expressing their creativity. They could observe their classmates paint and draw to learn new ways that could make it more fun. I could also use this lesson as an opportunity to help students be more engaged and interested in the art process. For example, I could show them what happens when they mix colors, like how blue and red makes the color purple.
