Journal Entry Chapter 9:
I think there are many personal characteristics that a teacher must have in order to create an effective classroom community.
For starters, teachers definitely need to have patience. When a teacher has patience, they are able to professionally and effectively overcome challenges that may arise in the classroom and with students. Teachers should also model patience and what it looks like to their students because overall, it is beneficial in maintaining a classroom and it also helps children carry on this trait throughout their lives.
Teachers should also have a the ability to be positive and build meaningful relationships with their students. When teachers build relationships with their students, it helps the students feel safe and cared for in the classroom. Building relationships can also impact their students' learning in a positive manner.
Lastly, teachers should also respect their students as a whole individual. When your students feel that they are respected by their adult teacher, it can greatly improve not only classroom management but the classroom community as a whole. For example, if a student who has a teacher that truly respects and values them, they are more likely to come into the classroom with a positive mind and motivation to do well in their academics.
