Journal Entry Chapter 7:

Educators have many responsibilities when it comes to helping students navigate information online. Educators need to support students in learning about research online and how to use their research skills. They also need to teach them to be aware of risks online whether that be protecting their privacy, cyberbullying, and having the knowledge about avoiding online scams. Alongside of these, educators also need to teach students how to check the credibility of online sources so that the student isn't misinformed on topics or subjects.      This matters more than ever due to a variety of reasons. For starters, there are many biased opinions online that ultimately is considered misinformation and students need to be educated on that while doing research and presenting said research. Another reason that plays into this is due to how cyberbullying is so common in todays world and it's important that students understand that and learn ways on how to avoid ...

In today's world, technology plays a huge role in classrooms now, so I feel that technology integration could pose as a challenge to me as a future teacher. Since COVID-19, technology has been implemented in classrooms and schools as a whole so much more than what it used to be. Technology has become an important tool within schools because it is now another version for how students learn. When you look around in schools now compared to years ago, you see chrome books, digital whiteboards, artificial intelligence, tablets, and much more.          I definitely feel that this could be a challenge for me as I consider myself to be a more traditional learner. I have never really been tech-savvy and have always loved the traditional use of pencil and paper. Besides using my phone, laptops and computers have definitely never been a strength of mine. During COVID, I had struggles learning how to use my chrome book whether that b...

When becoming a teacher, I anticipate that I have students that differ in many areas. I hope that I have students that have different learning styles. Some students may need to learn in an auditory way while others may need to learn in a more hands-on way. Personally, I always learned with a mix of auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning styles- I never learned best with just one specific learning style, so I think it would be interesting to help children navigate finding their learning styles whether that be one singular learning style or a mix of learning styles. I feel like having students with different learning styles can help me learn to be the best teacher I can by accommodating each learning style for each child.       I also expect to have students that have different cultural backgrounds. Students may have different cultural traditions within their household and different socioeconomic statuses. I want to learn ab...

When I imagine myself teaching a lesson about a favorite hobby, I would imagine teaching a lesson on something creative like painting or drawing.       This lesson could be a window to students because it could give students who don't really gravitated towards painting or drawing the opportunity to explore expressing their creativity. They could observe their classmates paint and draw to learn new ways that could make it more fun. I could also use this lesson as an opportunity to help students be more engaged and interested in the art process. For example, I could show them what happens when they mix colors, like how blue and red makes the color purple. This could help expand their art techniques and learn something they may have not known before.      This lesson could also be a mirror to students because they could use their artwork to connect meaningful things or experiences. For example, they could draw artwork of their family members...

Journal Entry Chapter 3:

I always had mixed feelings about standardized testing when I was younger. It would make me really nervous to take tests because I never wanted to do poorly so that always motivated me to do my best but it also stressed me out a lot during the test taking because I would always doubt my answers and that made me take more time on each question. When I was younger, my test taking abilities weren't always a strength of mine and even today sometimes I struggle with that but I would like to say that I've progressed myself in being a better test taker. There was never really a particular test that I enjoyed taking, but the English portion was one that I always did the best in. I've always enjoyed writing since I was young, so I did like to do the writing portion at the end of standardized testings because writing was always enjoyable to me. When the Pandemic started, I was super nervous because our school went completely online during that time and I have never been good ...

Journal Entry Chapter 2

Before I wanted to pursue the teaching field, I knew I always wanted to work with children on some type of level, but I wasn't sure how I wanted to go about that! I feel like I have lived many lives in my college journey so far. First, I pursued nursing and wanted to be a pediatrics nurse, but quickly found out that wasn't the profession that I wanted to go into. Then, I wanted to be an occupational therapist, working with children who had special needs and I loved the whole aspect of that profession but I wasn't completely sure on it. I then went to consult with my advisor from my previous college and she recommended me look into teaching. I then changed my major to early childhood education, and as soon as I started taking child development courses I immediately fell in love for that profession and what it stood for. During this past summer, I became a head teacher for Vacation Bible School with the toddler group and it became even more clear that this is what I w...

When I look at the qualities of a good teacher described by the 5Cs, I can personally relate to some of them.  As for being committed, I do feel that I am committed to my education and the learning experiences of young people. With that being said, I feel like there is always room for improvement so I would definitely like to learn more about the commitment it takes to foster a love for learning in students so that I can do my best job as a future teacher in creating fun and educational learning experiences for young children. While taking this course, I feel that I can get a better idea on what a truly committed teacher looks like.  For the caring category, I feel like I relate to that most out of the 5Cs. I have a strong passion for early childhood education and overall helping them within their education, so I care a lot. After taking previous child development courses, it helped me really foster a better understanding for child development as a whole a...
